Let’s Go on a Virtual Field Trip!

Good morning scholars, it’s time to bring the world to us through Google Earth.  Today, we are headed to the hidden worlds of the National Parks.  We will follow park rangers on a journey to places most people never go.  This field trip is packed with plenty of videos, so lets start exploring.

What’s Your Opinion

ELA Expectations for today:

Reading — We’ve been learning that good readers take time and learn more about a topic by looking at outside sources.  Yesterday we read a letter written by the Women’s Political Council, persuading blacks to stay off city buses in protest of Rosa Park’s arrest. We also watched the documentary about the Montgomery bus boycott.  I asked each of you yesterday in our daily questions whether you thought the bus boycott was a good solution or not to the problem.

Today we’re going to share that response in writing. This piece of writing will be graded. You will want to do your best work making sure your writing looks like third-grade writing.  You will use the framework found on page 26 of your readers notebook when writing this piece.

Please look below at the example of how I began writing the first paragraph of the introduction to my paper.

Notice that the first paragraph is indented.  Also notice how my introduction sentence tells the problem revealed in our story and also in the letter we read yesterday. In the second part of the introduction paragraph, I tell the solution to the problem, this follows the framework on page 26. You will need to add one more sentence to your introduction—you will tell whether you agree or disagree with how the problem was solved.  Use the introduction below to begin your writing.

Please add strong evidence that supports your opinion in the second paragraph.  This evidence should come from the text, then add a concluding paragraph that restates your thinking.  You have all written opinion pieces before and they turned out really well.  I look forward to reading these.

You may use pencil and paper, typing, or dictation while completing this assignment.  When you are finished, please email your writing to me.

Reading Response Journal Letters — thanks to Silas, Ivy, and Nate for turning in their letters yesterday.  Parker, please turn your letter in today.
